When I began this piece, it was originally going to be a tree floating in space, with a blue black background. The Dancer in the roots was going to be the only figure in the painting. As I began applying colour, it evolved significantly. The ochre background colour gave this piece a warm spring day look that I decided to build on. The painting became about the renewal of life after the passing of winter. The tree is covered with tiny new leaf buds and rich dripping sap. Each droplet contains a new life. They dance as the wind whistles through the branches.
